Financial Backing
Monies that support the Queen in the process of her responsibilities as the head of state of the U.K. comes from the Civil List. This is a return of a small portion of the income from the Crown Lands that are surrendered by the sovereign to parliament at the inauguration of each and every reign; all Crown Land being administered by The Crown Estates, an institution answerable to parliament. In the 2003-04 financial year, the sum presented was ?176 million, where the Head of State’s overheads was only thirty six million pounds.
